Practitioners have to renew their registration every three years.

Recordable Qualifications
The NMC records only the following Post-Registration qualifications: Specialist Practice, Teaching and Nurse Prescribing. The NMC does not record any of the short courses validated previously by the former National Boards for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting.

PIN cards
The NMC PIN card is a receipt for the payment of your registration fee. It has never been intended as proof of registration. Employers who wish to check a practitioner's registration should contact the NMC confirmation service on 020 7631 3200. PIN cards are often lost or stolen and there is a possibility they might be misused. Also, registrants who are struck off the register could still possess a seemingly valid PIN card.

Overseas Nurses in UKOverseas nurses and midwives play an important role in health care provision in the UK and the number of registrants from outside the EU on the NMC register has grown substantially reflecting this. From April 2004 to April 2005 the NMC received 69,173 requests regarding information on the application process and during the same period the NMC's overseas assessment team considered and made decisions on 53,440 applications.Application Process for overseas nursesPlease click on the link-www.nmc-uk.org

UK Nursing, additional information

Eligibility

Registered Nurse qualification from accredited Nursing School
Excellent spoken and written English
Clean police record

UK Trained nurses require at least 1 year of working experience; with 6 months in your current chosen clinical speciality.
Nurses from overseas must have at least 2 years nursing experience with 1 year in your chosen clinical speciality.
